BOYS SOCCER

Cambridge/Salem Wins Double-Overtime Thriller

Cambridge/Salem battled back to earn a 3-2 double-overtime victory on the road against Mechanicville.

Mechanicville carried a 1-0 lead into halftime after Graham Murphy scored in the opening half. Cambridge/Salem answered after the break, with Alex Olson capitalizing on a defensive miscue to tie the game before Landon Sullivan put Cambridge/Salem in front, 2-1.

Murphy responded five minutes later, scoring on a free kick from outside the box to even the game and eventually force overtime.

The deciding goal came midway through the second overtime. Kieran Carroll played the ball to Rowan Ossont, who sent it across the box to Olson for the game-winner and his second goal of the contest.

Cambridge/Salem goalkeeper Tyler Beadling recorded six saves, while Mechanicville keeper Ethan Stounton made two.

Lakers Shut Out Greenwich to Win Mayfield Tournament

Lake George captured the Mayfield Tournament championship with a 2-0 victory over Greenwich on Sept. 12.

The Lakers struck early when sophomore Landon LeMay converted a free kick from 30 yards nine minutes into the game. Lake George carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.

The Lakers added some breathing room midway through the second half. Luke Holderman won the ball deep in Greenwich territory and sent a cross to Eli Brown, who finished the play for a 2-0 lead.

Lake George goalkeeper Marty Farrell made six saves to earn the shutout, while Greenwich keeper Mason Foster recorded five. The Lakers held an 8-5 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corner kicks.

Lake George’s Simon Ludlow, Owen Rajeski, Eli Brown and Landon LeMay were named to the all-tournament team, along with Greenwich’s Owen Shannon, Wyatt Skiff and Christian Morency.

Lakers Blank Granville in League Matchup

Lake George rolled to a 4-0 victory over Granville in Adirondack League boys soccer action on Sept. 14.

Eli Brown opened the scoring off a Nolan Stannard free kick, giving Brown his third goal in as many games. Four minutes later, Brown set up Landon LeMay for the Lakers’ second goal and a 2-0 halftime advantage.

Lake George added two more in the second half. Elliot Sindelman found the net off an assist from Simon Ludlow before Alex Rajeski capped the scoring five minutes later on a pass from Landon Holderman.

Lake George goalkeeper Marty Farrell made five saves for the shutout. Granville keeper Kory Childs recorded 10 saves. The Lakers held a 13-5 advantage in shots and a 6-2 edge in corner kicks.

Cambridge-Salem Wins Back-and-Forth Battle With Waterford

Cambridge-Salem grabbed an early advantage and then fought off a determined Waterford comeback to earn an exciting 3-2 league victory on Sept. 15.

Cambridge-Salem came out attacking and Rowan Ossont provided the early spark. Ossont broke through for the first goal after taking a pass from Nolan Thomas and finishing a breakaway. He struck again later in the half, this time converting a 25-yard free kick to give Cambridge-Salem a 2-0 advantage.

Waterford refused to let the game get away. Conner Belonga scored on a breakaway late in the first half, trimming the deficit to 2-1 heading into the break.

Cambridge-Salem continued to apply pressure in the second half and eventually restored its two-goal cushion. Theo LeBlanc found Alex Olson, who finished the opportunity to make it 3-1.

Once again, Waterford answered. Belonga connected on a free kick to the far post for his second goal of the game, pulling Waterford within one and setting up a tense finish.

Waterford pushed for the equalizer over the final 10 minutes, but Cambridge-Salem goalkeeper Tyler Beadling and the defense kept the visitors from finding the tying goal. Beadling finished with six saves.

Waterford’s goalkeepers also came up with several key stops as Cambridge-Salem continued to create chances. Henry Chapin was credited with either four or five saves in the two reports provided, while Atwood was credited with two saves.

FOOTBALL

Averill Park Pulls Away From Wildcats

Averill Park used a big second half to defeat the Tamarac/Hoosick Falls Wildcats 35-0 on Sept. 11.

The Wildcats kept Averill Park out of the end zone throughout the first half, with a pair of Theodore Tichy field goals accounting for the only scoring and sending Tamarac/Hoosick Falls into halftime trailing 6-0.

Averill Park broke through with a touchdown in the third quarter before adding three more in the fourth to pull away.

The Wildcats finished with 183 yards of offense, including 128 on the ground. Grant Glover led the rushing attack with 51 yards on 11 carries, while Austin Cavanaugh added 31 yards on seven carries. Owen Hart completed three passes for 40 yards and rushed for another 23, while Porter Driscoll had a 30-yard reception.

Averill Park totaled 390 yards, led by Joey Biette with 147 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Mason Sansone threw for 139 yards and a touchdown. 

GOLF

Rainy Round Goes Hoosic Valley’s Way

The Hoosick Falls Panthers battled steady rain and Hoosic Valley on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Battenkill Country Club, falling 6-3 in the par-35 match.

Hoosic Valley’s Ryan Morrissey earned medalist honors with a 38, while Spencer Tate led Hoosick Falls with a 39.

Keegan Antolick shot a 41 for Hoosic Valley, followed by Jackson Schram with a 42, Owen Harder with a 47 and Owen Williams with a 48. Craig D’Avella also competed for Hoosic Valley.

Aidyn DeGraaf carded a 43 for the Panthers, with Zach Houghton shooting 47, Jack Shea 49, Quinn Haynes 54 and Memphis Hathaway 55.

The loss moved Hoosick Falls to 2-3 on the season.

Cambridge/Salem, Greenwich Finish All Square

Cambridge/Salem and Greenwich battled to a 4.5-4.5 tie on Sept. 10 at Hoosick Falls Country Club.

Greenwich won the match-play portion 4.5-1.5, while Cambridge/Salem earned three points with a 133-138 advantage in the team score.

Cambridge/Salem’s Connor Genevick earned medalist honors with a 42. Stephen Yakubec shot a 46, James Beagle 47, Lain Foster 52, Sawyer Armstrong 45 and Anthony Becker 54.

For Greenwich, Richie Coon led the way with a 44, followed by Peter Wade with a 46, Sam Ziehm 48, Dylan Brown 48, Noah Spiezio 49 and Brayden Stutzman 49.

Cambridge/Salem moved to 1-3-1, while Greenwich remained unbeaten at 4-0-1.

Panthers Swing Past Waterford-Halfmoon

Hoosick Falls picked up a 7-2 victory over Waterford-Halfmoon on Sept. 11 at Hoosick Falls Country Club.

Jack Shea and Quinn Haynes led the Panthers with rounds of 43, sharing medalist honors with Waterford-Halfmoon’s Dylan Day on the par-34 course.

Spencer Tate followed with a 44 for Hoosick Falls, while Aidyn DeGraaf and Memphis Hathaway each shot 46. Cole DeLuca finished with a 57 and Lincoln Colvin a 60.

For Waterford-Halfmoon, Landon Pitcher shot 46, Evan Cavosie 47, Bradley O’Connor 50, JJ Rusell 53 and Andrew O’Connor 58.

The victory moved Hoosick Falls to 3-4 on the season. The Panthers were scheduled for three matches the following week, hosting Tamarac and Saratoga Catholic before facing Cambridge at Hoosick Falls Country Club.

GIRLS SOCCER

Panthers Shut Out Witches in Non-League Match

Hoosick Falls picked up a 3-0 non-league victory over Greenwich on Sept. 9 in the first of two matchups between the teams.

Laney Kasulinous opened the scoring for the Panthers 13 minutes into the first half. Lilly Zwinge added two goals, scoring once in each half to help Hoosick Falls secure the win.

Panthers goalkeeper Avery McMahon made five saves for the shutout, while Greenwich keeper Molly Andrew finished with seven saves.

Salem-Cambridge Edges Taconic Hills in Tournament Play

Salem-Cambridge earned a 1-0 victory over Taconic Hills on Sept. 10 in the BNL soccer tournament.

Natalie Wood provided the game’s only goal, finding the net at 17:10 of the first half off an assist from Mary Langevin.

Charlotte Hodgkinson and Olivia Keller each recorded six saves for Salem-Cambridge. Taconic Hills goalkeeper Amber White finished with five saves.

Corinth Tops Salem-Cambridge

Corinth handed Salem-Cambridge a 5-0 loss in varsity girls soccer action on Sept. 9.

Alexis Baker and Heather Pita scored two goals apiece for Corinth, while Isabella Craig added a goal.

Salem-Cambridge goalkeeper Charlotte Hodgkinson kept busy in the net with 15 saves. Corinth goalkeeper Alexis Craig made two saves.

Witches Roll Past Hadley-Luzerne

Greenwich filled the scoresheet in a 10-1 victory over Hadley-Luzerne on Sept. 11.

Warner and Penelope Allen led the Witches with two goals apiece. Talmadge, Cary, Lucy Allen, Sievers, Miller and Hughes each added a goal. Warner, McQueen and Cary contributed assists.

McKinney scored Hadley-Luzerne’s lone goal.

Greenwich held an 18-4 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Molly Andrew made three saves for the Witches, while York recorded eight saves for Hadley-Luzerne.

Mechanicville Powers Past South Glens Falls

Mechanicville picked up a 7-1 victory over South Glens Falls in varsity girls soccer action on Sept. 12.

Gianna Pitti led Mechanicville with four goals and three assists. Frankie Eisenman added a goal and two assists, while Ella Manning and Arianna Squeglia each scored once. Manning also recorded an assist.

South Glens Falls’ lone goal came from Sheridan Furner.

Mechanicville goalkeeper Christian Durant made seven saves, while South Glens Falls finished with six saves.

Cairo-Durham Tops Salem-Cambridge in BNL Championship

Salem-Cambridge fell 4-1 to Cairo-Durham in the championship game of the BNL tournament. The game ended early due to darkness.

Cairo-Durham’s Aria McCade scored twice in the first half, with Rebecca Mahler assisting on both goals. Mary Langevin put Salem-Cambridge on the board off an assist from Kiara Ayers. Amanda Ramos-Rivera added a pair of goals for Cairo-Durham, scoring once in each half.

Salem-Cambridge goalkeeper Charlotte Hodgkinosn made 12 saves and was named goalie of the match. Cairo-Durham’s Lucy Palmer finished with two saves.

Granville Rolls Past Emma Willard

Granville picked up a 5-0 victory over Emma Willard in Adirondack-Wasaren League action.

Charlotte Warren led Granville with two goals, while Mackenzie Martell recorded a goal and an assist. Lilly Olsen and Kattlynn Bascom each added a goal, and Caroline Bates finished with three assists.

Emma Willard goalkeeper Mino Yin recorded 19 saves.

Lake George Blanks Hoosick Falls

Lake George earned a 4-0 road victory over Hoosick Falls in girls soccer action.

Maria O’Connor and Clara Palladino scored two goals apiece for the Lakers. Lauren Wildey, Bella Brown and Olivia Doty each contributed an assist.

Lake George held a 19-5 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks. Lakers goalkeeper Addison Reinhold made three saves for the shutout, while Hoosick Falls keeper Avery McMahon recorded 12 saves.

Lake George improved to 3-1-1, while Hoosick Falls moved to 1-2.

Hudson Falls Holds Off Greenwich

Hudson Falls defeated Greenwich 4-1 in girls varsity soccer action on Sept. 14.

Kendall Glenn opened the scoring for Hudson Falls off an assist from Brynn Terry. Terry then scored twice in the first half, with assists from Rylee Richards and Kate Middleton, to give Hudson Falls a 3-0 advantage.

Greenwich answered eight minutes into the second half when Penelope Talmadge scored off an assist from Averi McQueen. The Witches continued to apply pressure during the half, but Hudson Falls added its final goal with 2:30 remaining when Glenn scored her second of the game off an assist from Makenna Condon.

Greenwich’s goalkeeper recorded four saves, while Hudson Falls finished with five.

Salem-Cambridge Pours in Eight Against Hadley-Luzerne

Salem-Cambridge found plenty of offense in an 8-1 non-league victory over Hadley-Luzerne on Sept. 14.

Natalie Wood, Nora Carroll and Riley Gallagher each scored twice for Salem-Cambridge, while Mary Langevin and Hayleigh Chester also found the net. Langevin assisted on two goals, Wood added two assists and Bella Eastman contributed one.

Jocelynn Trombley scored Hadley-Luzerne’s lone goal, with Kerrigan Kelly picking up the assist.

Salem-Cambridge held a 26-10 advantage in shots and a 1-0 edge in corner kicks. Charlotte Hodgkinson and Olivia Keller each made five saves for Salem-Cambridge. Hadley-Luzerne’s Melanie York recorded 10 saves and Dey Angeles added eight.

FIELD HOCKEY

Niskayuna Tops Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge

Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge fell 2-0 to Niskayuna in non-league field hockey action.

Niskayuna’s Catherine Halayko and Madelyn Cummings each scored, with Riley Verschueren assisting on both goals.

Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge goalkeeper Paige Mattison turned away 14 shots, while Niskayuna’s goalkeeper recorded seven saves.

Sheehan Scores Twice as Greenwich Tops HFSC

Greenwich earned a 3-0 victory over Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge in field hockey action.

Quinn Sheehan opened the scoring in the first quarter before Avery Timmins added a goal in the second. Sheehan struck again in the fourth quarter to finish with two goals for the Witches.

Greenwich goalkeeper Angelina Jensen made two saves to earn the shutout, while Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge keeper Paige Mattison recorded eight saves.

Greenwich improved to 2-0 in league play and 2-1 overall, while Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge moved to 0-1 in the league and 0-2 overall.

Greenwich Rallies Past Schuylerville

Greenwich found its rhythm as the game went on, scoring five unanswered goals to earn a 5-1 field hockey victory over Schuylerville.

Schuylerville struck first in the opening quarter on a goal from Avery Cumm, but Greenwich answered in the second when Ivy Booth found the net to send the teams into halftime even.

The Witches took the lead in the third quarter when Sarah Sorbera scored off an assist from Quinn Sheehan. Greenwich then broke the game open with three goals in the fourth.

Sheehan scored to make it 3-1 before Keeley Vooris connected off an assist from Sorbera. Avery Timmins capped the scoring with a goal assisted by Taber Hunt.

Greenwich kept the pressure on throughout the contest, finishing with an 11-1 advantage in penalty corners. Schuylerville goalkeeper Meagan Coonrdt turned away 26 shots.

VOLLEYBALL

Tamarac Sweeps Waterford-Halfmoon

Tamarac picked up a straight-set Wasaren League volleyball victory over Waterford-Halfmoon, winning 25-5, 25-13 and 25-12.

For Waterford-Halfmoon, Kelsie White finished with five service points and 15 assists, while Emma Sheehan recorded eight service points, two aces and two kills.

No individual statistics were provided for Tamarac.

Girls Soccer

Queensbury 3, Glens Falls 1 - Sept. 10. Maddy Murray, Quinn Noonan and Julianna Percetti scored for Queensbury, with Percetti adding two assists. Kloe Russo scored for Glens Falls.

Scotia-Glenville 3, Amsterdam 0 - Sept. 10. After a scoreless first half, Scotia-Glenville broke through with three goals after the break. Reegan Keeting, Evelyn Torelli and Madeline Veeder each found the net, while Keeting and Ruth Veeder added assists. Addisyn Boniewskii turned away 12 shots for the shutout.

Burnt Hills 7, Queensbury 1 - Sept. 12. Quinn Noonan scored for Queensbury off an assist from Julianna Percetti. Caroline Wright recorded 12 saves.

Lake George 2, Northville 0 - Sept. 12. The Lakers broke open a scoreless game late, with Piper Brown scoring in the 66th minute and Chloe Popa adding an insurance goal in the 75th. Maria O’Connor assisted on both goals. Northville held a 17-12 advantage in shots, but Lake George goalkeeper Addison Reinhold stopped 14 shots to earn the shutout. Lake George improved to 2-1-1.

Queensbury 5, Gloversville 0 - Sept. 15. Julianna Percetti scored twice and added three assists, while Sydney McGrath, Cera Duffy and Quinn Noonan also scored.

Scotia-Glenville 12, Hudson Falls 1 - Sept. 15. Reegan Keeting led Scotia-Glenville with five goals and two assists, while Madeline Veeder scored three times and Sheila Marino added two goals and three assists. Molly Fitzgerald and Adelyn Cowdrey also scored. Brynn Terry had the Hudson Falls goal off an assist from Makenna Condon.

Boys Soccer

Lake George 1, Fort Ann 1 - Sept. 9. Adirondack League rivals Lake George and Fort Ann battled through rainy conditions and 100 minutes before settling for a draw. Eli Brown gave the Lakers the lead late in the first half, knocking home a rebound after Fort Ann keeper Hunter Wade stopped an Elijah Romanowski free kick. Fort Ann answered in the second half when Sean Havens converted the rebound of his own penalty kick after Lake George keeper Marty Farrell made the initial save. Fort Ann held a 19-16 advantage in shots and a 7-3 edge in corners. Farrell finished with 18 saves and Wade made 15.

Waterford 8, Berlin-New Lebanon 0 - Sept. 9. Waterford opened Wasaren League play with six first-half goals on its way to the shutout. Conner Belonga led the Fordians with five goals, K. Sheehan scored twice and Bristol added a goal. Delgaudio and Bristol each contributed two assists. Waterford goalkeepers Chapin and Atwood made one save apiece.

Lake George 1, Mayfield 1 - Sept. 11. Lake George advanced to the Mayfield Tournament championship with a 4-2 advantage in penalty kicks after the teams remained tied through overtime. Eli Brown gave the Lakers the lead early in the second half off a pass from Nolan Stannard before Mayfield’s Landon Coyne tied the game. Marty Farrell recorded 10 saves for Lake George, while Mayfield keeper Ryan Ercoline made nine.

Queensbury 4, Amsterdam 0 - Sept. 11. Aidan Scott scored his first varsity goal, Liam Cowles added another and Tyler Fitzgerald scored twice. Aidan Johnson made three saves for the shutout.

Chazy 7, Waterford 0 - Sept. 12. Waterford held Chazy scoreless for the opening 20 minutes of the non-league contest before the hosts broke through. Chazy carried a 3-0 lead into halftime and added four goals after the break. Waterford keepers Atwood and Chapin combined for seven saves.

Bolton-Warrensburg 2, Stillwater 1 - Sept. 12. Bolton-Warrensburg grabbed the lead when Ben Birkholz converted a penalty kick, but Stillwater answered six minutes later on a goal from Trystan O’Brien. The 1-1 tie lasted into the second half before Hunter Rausch delivered the game-winner. Bolton-Warrensburg held a 10-2 advantage in shots and a 7-0 edge in corners. Stillwater keeper Jayden Mwale made eight saves.

Field Hockey

Bethlehem 6, Queensbury 1 - Sept. 11. Sydney Yrsha scored Queensbury’s goal on a fourth-quarter penalty stroke. Megan Winne made 15 saves.

Shenendehowa 7, Queensbury 3 - Sept. 12. Sydney Yrsha had a goal and two assists, Olivia Salone recorded a goal and an assist and Rio Patch scored once for Queensbury. Molly Bamberger led Shenendehowa with four goals and two assists.

Queensbury 9, Gloversville 0 - Sept. 14. Sydney Yrsha erupted for six goals and two assists, tying the school single-game goals record and setting a school record with 14 points. The performance also moved Yrsha to 150 career points. Kendall Hamm added two goals and two assists.

Girls Tennis

Queensbury 6, Averill Park 3 - Sept. 10. Nicole Greenstein earned her 73rd career singles victory, tying the Queensbury program record held by Ashley Goetz since 1993. Queensbury improved to 2-0.

Queensbury 7, Amsterdam/Broadalbin-Perth 0 - Sept. 11. Greenstein earned career singles victory No. 74 to become Queensbury’s all-time leader as the Spartans swept the match and improved to 3-0.

Queensbury 5, Scotia-Glenville 2 - Sept. 14. Breck Allen, Grace O’Keeffe and Samantha Smead won singles matches, while the Spartans swept both doubles matches to improve to 4-0.

Golf

Lake George 4, Warrensburg 1 - Sept. 8. Lake George improved to 2-0 in Adirondack League play with the victory at Top of the World. Keegan Nastke, Aidan Cardinale, Lucas Gilles and Seth Herrick earned match victories for the Lakers. Warrensburg’s Rowan Seelye picked up his team’s point with a win over Christopher Mondella. Seelye and Herrick shared medalist honors with rounds of 40.

Lake George 4.5, North Warren 0.5 - Sept. 14. Christopher Mondella, Keegan Nastke, Aidan Cardinale and Seth Herrick won their matches for Lake George, while Lucas Gilles and Aiden Magee finished all square. Nastke earned medalist honors with a round of 38.

Girls Swimming and Diving

Queensbury 103, Schenectady/Colonie 72 - Sept. 15. Ella Mossing and Mya Stark each earned two first-place finishes as Queensbury opened its season with a victory. Bailey Matte won diving, Jules Muldner captured the 100 butterfly and Queensbury also won the 200 medley relay.
