Belonga’s Hat Trick Lifts Waterford Over Tamarac

WATERFORD — Conner Belonga supplied all three goals as Waterford defeated visiting Tamarac 3-0 in boys varsity soccer on a chilly Sept. 23 evening.

Evan Bristol sent a through ball to Belonga midway through the first half for the opening goal. Tamarac’s organized defense kept the margin at 1-0 heading into halftime.

Tamarac came out pressing for the equalizer after the break, but Waterford regained possession and added two goals midway through the half. Belonga buried a rebound off a Brady Sheehan shot, then finished another through ball from Sheehan a few minutes later to complete his hat trick.

Sheehan finished with two assists and Bristol had one. Henry Chapin and Jonny Atwood each made two saves to share the shutout for Waterford.

Cambridge/Salem Spreads the Scoring in 8-1 Win

CAMBRIDGE — Seven players found the net as Cambridge/Salem defeated Spa Catholic 8-1 in boys soccer.

Alex Olson led the attack with two goals and two assists. Rowan Ossont and Brady Brownell each added a goal and an assist, while Juan Espinosa, Theo Leblanc, Jacob Armstrong and Nolan HTomas scored one goal apiece. Dawson Honyoust contributed an assist.

Waterford Caps Homecoming with 5-0 Win

WATERFORD — Conner Belonga scored a hat trick as Waterford defeated Stillwater 5-0 in boys varsity soccer on Sept. 26, closing out Fordian Fever Weekend at Fordian Stadium.

Belonga opened the scoring off a through pass from Jacoby Wason, then capitalized on a goal-kick turnover with just 18 seconds left in the first half to give Waterford a 2-0 lead.

Eight minutes into the second half, Belonga finished a pass from Evan Bristol to complete his hat trick. Nick Frazier added a goal after a scramble following a corner kick, and Bristol’s late cross deflected into the net off a Stillwater defender for the final tally. Brady Sheehan also recorded an assist.

Jonny Atwood and Henry Chapin each made one save to share Waterford’s shutout. Stillwater’s Mwale finished with seven saves.

Martin Scores Twice as Hartford Tops Cambridge/Salem

HARTFORD — Brody Martin scored both goals as Hartford defeated Cambridge/Salem 2-0 in boys soccer on Sept. 28.

Hartford capitalized on two unsuccessful clearing attempts by Cambridge/Salem, with Martin finding the net each time.

Damon Duhame made three saves to earn the shutout for Hartford. Tyler Beadling recorded four saves for Cambridge/Salem.

Ossont’s Two Goals Help Cambridge/Salem Top Tamarac

CAMBRIDGE — Rowan Ossont scored twice and Alex Olson added a goal as Cambridge/Salem defeated Tamarac 3-0 in boys soccer on Sept. 29.

Tyler Beadling made five saves to secure the shutout for Cambridge/Salem. Sebastian VanSluyters kept busy in Tamarac’s net, recording 13 saves.

Lohnes-Hathaway’s Hat Trick Powers HFSC Past Emma Willard

HOOSICK FALLS — Kelly Lohnes-Hathaway scored three times as Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge earned a 5-0 field hockey win over visiting Emma Willard on Sept. 23.

Lohnes-Hathaway opened the scoring in the first quarter off an assist from Skyler Price. Kate Sparks doubled the lead in the second, with Lohnes-Hathaway providing the assist, sending HFSC into halftime up 2-0.

HFSC put the game firmly in hand with three third-quarter goals. Price scored with an assist from Evie Schuttig, and Lohnes-Hathaway added two more, the first assisted by Maggie Patrick and the second unassisted, to complete her hat trick.

Paige Mattison made one save to secure the shutout for HFSC, while Emma Willard’s Gwyn Taft recorded 10 saves. HFSC improved to 2-2 in league play and 2-3 overall.

Greenwich Spreads the Scoring in Win Over Granville

GREENWICH — Four players scored as Greenwich defeated Granville 4-1 in field hockey on Sept. 25.

Quinn Sheehan helped get Greenwich rolling in the first quarter, assisting on goals by Keeley Vooris and Nola Sheehan. Taber Hunt added an unassisted goal in the third quarter, and Quinn Sheehan capped Greenwich’s scoring in the fourth, finishing with a goal and two assists.

Addison Baker scored Granville’s goal with an assist from Mackenzie Martle. Angelina Jensen made four saves for Greenwich, while Amiracle Newton recorded 12 saves for Granville.

HFSC Holds Off Glens Falls for 3-2 Win

HOOSICK FALLS — Hoosick Falls/Salem-Cambridge built a two-goal halftime lead and held off Glens Falls for a 3-2 field hockey victory on Sept. 26, evening its overall record at 3-3.

Kelly Lohnes-Hathaway opened the scoring with an unassisted first-quarter goal. Sophia Parker doubled the lead in the second quarter off an assist from Skyler Price.

Glens Falls got on the board in the third quarter when Cameryn Bartholomew scored with an assist from Aulora Haas. Kamdyn Wright answered for HFSC with 44 seconds remaining in the quarter, finishing off a feed from Evie Schuttig to make it 3-1.

Ella Carner brought Glens Falls within one with 1:55 left in the fourth quarter, assisted by Haas, but HFSC held on for the win.

Paige Mattison made four saves for HFSC, while Giana Rogleri recorded 10 saves for Glens Falls.

Warren Scores Twice in Granville Shutout

TROY — Charlotte Warren scored two goals as Granville defeated host Emma Willard 5-0 in field hockey on Sept. 14.

Mackenzie Martell contributed a goal and an assist, while Lilly Olsen and Kattlynn Bascom each scored once. Caroline Bates helped fuel the offense with three assists.

Emma Willard goalkeeper Mino Yin recorded 19 saves.

Lozler Leads Corinth Past Emma Willard

TROY — Aubrey Lozler scored four goals and added an assist to lead Corinth to a 5-1 field hockey victory over Emma Willard on Sept. 28.

Liv Crooks added Corinth’s other goal, and Jess Freeburn supplied two assists. Marigold Philipp scored for Emma Willard off an assist from Ally Robillard.

Mino Yin made 22 saves for Emma Willard, while Corinth’s goalkeeper recorded eight. Corinth held a 27-9 edge in shots on goal and a 13-12 advantage in penalty corners.

GOLF

Panthers Top Greenwich as Coon Leads the Field

HOOSICK FALLS — Greenwich’s Ritchy Coon shot a match-best 42, but Hoosick Falls claimed a 7.5-1.5 golf victory on Sept. 23 at the par-34 Hoosick Falls Country Club. The win lifted the Panthers to 7-5 on the season.

Quinn Haynes paced Hoosick Falls with a 44, followed by Aidyn DeGraaf with a 45. Spencer Tate and Zach Houghton each carded a 46, Jack Shea shot 47 and Memphis Hathaway finished with a 49.

For Greenwich, Sam Ziehm followed Coon with a 46. Pete Wade shot 49, Brayden Stutzman 50, Dylan Brown 52 and Lincoln St. Pierre 53.

The Panthers’ closing schedule included trips to Mechanicville, Tamarac and Saratoga Catholic, along with a home Senior Match against Hoosic Valley. This year’s six seniors are Jack Shea, Spencer Tate, Aidyn DeGraaf, Zach Houghton, Quinn Haynes and Memphis Hathaway.

Mechanicville Takes Golf Win Over Hoosick Falls

MECHANICVILLE — Matt Salvadore shot a match-best 40 to lead Mechanicville to an 8-1 victory over Hoosick Falls on Sept. 24 at the par-36 Mechanicville Golf Club. The Panthers slipped to 7-6 on the season.

Zach Houghton led Hoosick Falls with a 41, finishing just one stroke behind Salvadore. Jack Shea carded a 44, Aidyn DeGraaf 46, Quinn Haynes 48, Spencer Tate 49, Colton Brust 51, Memphis Hathaway 56 and Callen Aubin 72.

For Mechanicville, John Cady and Aj Messercola each shot 43, followed by Vinny Taylor with a 44, Dylan Salvadore with a 45 and Brody Landy with a 49.

Hoosick Falls’ final three matches were scheduled against Tamarac, Hoosic Valley and Saratoga Catholic. The home Senior Match against Hoosic Valley honors Jack Shea, Spencer Tate, Aidyn DeGraaf, Zach Houghton, Quinn Haynes and Memphis Hathaway.

Cambridge/Salem Edges Stillwater on the Links

HOOSICK FALLS — Cambridge/Salem earned a 5.5-3.5 golf victory over Stillwater at Hoosick Falls Country Club on Sept. 24, taking the team low-net scoring 134-136 to help secure the win.

Stillwater’s Ty Morris earned medalist honors with a 3-over-par 37, defeating Connor Genevick 3 and 2. Genevick’s 41 was Cambridge/Salem’s lowest score.

Stephen Yakubec shot 45 and won his match against Daniel DeGrasse, who carded 54, by one hole. Cody Donisthrope also earned a 1-up victory over Max Parella, with both finishing at 53. James Beagle shot 48 and finished all square with Vincent Festa, who recorded 52.

Stillwater’s Logan Surakam carded 53 and defeated Lain Foster, who shot 52, 2 and 1. Julian Paluso shot 47 to edge Sawyer Armstrong, who finished with 52, by one hole.

Cambridge/Salem improved to 4-6-1, while Stillwater moved to 8-4.

Waterford Tops Hoosick Falls Under the Lights

HOOSICK FALLS — Richie Bartholomew made 15 saves for Hoosick Falls, but goals from Conner Belonga and Landon Pitcher gave Waterford a 2-0 boys varsity soccer victory on the Panthers’ senior night Sept. 29.

With both teams finding their footing on slick grass, Belonga opened the scoring eight minutes into the game with a shot from outside the penalty area. The score stayed 1-0 through halftime as play went back and forth.

Hoosick Falls’ defense, anchored by Bartholomew, kept the game close until Pitcher scored off a pass from Belonga with 12 minutes remaining. Bartholomew got a piece of the shot, but the ball trickled into the net.

Belonga and Brady Sheehan each recorded an assist. Henry Chapin and Jonny Atwood made two saves apiece to share Waterford’s shutout.

DeGraaf Leads Panthers to Senior Night Victory

HOOSICK FALLS — Senior Aidyn DeGraaf shot a match-best 39 as Hoosick Falls defeated Hoosic Valley 7-2 in its final home golf match of the season Sept. 29 at the par-34 Hoosick Falls Country Club.

The Panthers improved to 8-6 and capped the afternoon by honoring six seniors: Jack Shea, Spencer Tate, Aidyn DeGraaf, Zach Houghton, Quinn Haynes and Memphis Hathaway.

Quinn Haynes followed DeGraaf with a 40, while Spencer Tate carded 42, Cole DeLuca 44, Zach Houghton 45, Colton Brust 47, Jack Shea 49 and Memphis Hathaway 51.

Keegan Antolick led Hoosic Valley with a 40. Ryan Morrissey shot 44, Ryan Seymour and Owen Williams each finished at 51, Tyler Bosson recorded 52 and Karson Rassmussen carded 59.

Hoosick Falls is scheduled to close its Wasaren regular season at Saratoga Catholic on Thursday, Oct. 1.

GIRLS SOCCER

Van Pelt Scores Five as Stillwater Tops Hoosick Falls

HOOSICK FALLS — Kamryn Van Pelt scored five goals to lead Stillwater to a 7-0 girls soccer victory over Hoosick Falls on Sept. 24.

Brooke Hodgson added two goals and two assists to round out Stillwater’s scoring.

Langevin’s Goal Gives Salem-Cambridge the Edge

SALEM — Mary Langevin scored the lone goal as Salem-Cambridge defeated Berlin/New Lebanon 1-0 in varsity girls soccer on Sept. 24.

Langevin found the net off an assist from Natalie Wood at the 31:17 mark of the first half, giving Salem-Cambridge all the scoring it needed.

Olivia Keller made nine saves to secure the shutout for Salem-Cambridge, while Allie Manchester recorded 13 saves for Berlin/New Lebanon.

Allen Earns Tournament Honors as Greenwich Falls to Greenville

GREENVILLE — Olivia Warner scored for Greenwich, and defender Lucy Allen earned all-tournament honors as Greenwich fell 7-1 to Greenville in the consolation round of the Greenville girls varsity soccer tournament on Sept. 26.

Areanna Goode and Laura Styler each scored twice for Greenville. Anna Motta, Katherine Taibi and Adeline Royer added one goal apiece.

Warner scored Greenwich’s goal off an assist from Morgan Cary. Molly Andrew made 13 saves for Greenwich, while Greenville’s Isabelle Hunter finished with five.

Hoosic Valley Edges Greenwich in Rainy Match

GREENWICH — Mia MacMillen scored the lone goal as Hoosic Valley edged Greenwich 1-0 in girls soccer on Sept. 28, with both teams battling through tough, rainy conditions.

MacMillen found the net with 14 minutes remaining in the first half off an assist from Annabelle Bruette.

Lili Ruepp made eight saves to secure the shutout for Hoosic Valley, while Greenwich’s Molly Andrew recorded 11 saves.

Pitts Nets Four as Mechanicville Tops Hoosick Falls

MECHANICVILLE — Gianna Pitts scored four goals and added an assist as Mechanicville defeated Hoosick Falls 8-0 in girls varsity soccer on Sept. 28.

Tanner Eiseman contributed two goals and three assists, while Calli Christensen scored twice. Arianna Scheel and Ella Manning each added an assist. Mechanicville scored four goals in each half.

Hoosick Falls goalkeepers Avery McMahon and Gretta Rowlands recorded nine and 16 saves, respectively. Christina Bont earned the shutout for Mechanicville without needing a save. Mechanicville finished with 33 shots on goal and improved to 6-1 overall.

Brown and O’Connor Lead Lake George Past Fort Ann

LAKE GEORGE — Piper Brown and Maria O’Connor each scored twice as Lake George defeated Fort Ann 5-0 in girls soccer on Sept. 29.

Brown opened the scoring in the 29th minute off an assist from Bella Brown, then struck again in the 36th minute with Clara Palladino providing the assist.

O’Connor added goals in the 45th and 52nd minutes, assisted by Bella Brown and Piper Brown, respectively. Lauren Wildey rounded out the scoring in the 56th minute off an assist from Addison Reinhold.

Reinhold also made eight saves to secure Lake George’s shutout, while Mackenzie Sullivan recorded six saves for Fort Ann. Lake George held a 22-20 edge in shots, while Fort Ann led 5-2 in corner kicks.

Lake George improved to 7-2-1, and Fort Ann moved to 7-2.

Following the game, Reinhold was honored with a poster celebrating her achieving 29 career shutouts, a new program record. The feat was achieved during the Laker's game against Whitehall earlier this week.

VOLLEYBALL

Hoosic Valley Holds Off Cambridge for Sweep

CAMBRIDGE — Hoosic Valley defeated Cambridge 3-0 in varsity volleyball on Sept. 16, taking the sets 25-21, 25-17 and 26-24.

Cambridge made the Eagles work for the finish, pushing the third set beyond the usual 25-point mark before Hoosic Valley closed out the match.

Brielle LeBarron led Cambridge with eight service points, followed by Ava Fazioli with five, Isabella Zimmerman with four, Sophia Lohret with three and Gabrielle Hackman with two. Callie Smulsky, Callie Bochette, Julia Mastromarchi, Abbagale Marpe and Lucy Gibson contributed to Hoosic Valley’s efforts from the service line.

Cambridge Bounces Back to Beat Berlin/New Lebanon

CAMBRIDGE — After dropping the opening set, Cambridge found its rhythm and won the next three to defeat Berlin/New Lebanon 3-1 in varsity volleyball on Sept. 23.

Berlin/New Lebanon took the opener 25-17, but Cambridge answered with a tight 25-23 victory to even the match. Cambridge then pulled ahead with wins of 25-16 and 25-17.

Isabella LeBarron paced Cambridge with 16 service points, while Sophia Lohret added 14. Izzy Zimmerman recorded eight, Brielle LeBarron had seven and Gabby Hackman contributed three. Madison Proskin and Ava Fazioli each finished with two service points.

FOOTBALL

Wildcats Roll to 48-0 Football Victory

TAMARAC — Owen Hart threw two touchdown passes and ran for another as the Tamarac Hoosick Falls Wildcats defeated Fort Plain 48-0 on Sept. 25.

The Wildcats built a 34-0 halftime lead and finished with 353 yards of offense, while holding Fort Plain to 84 yards and four first downs.

Hart opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run. Glenn Milliman followed with a 6-yard scoring run and added the two-point conversion for a 14-0 first-quarter lead.

Milliman scored again from 6 yards out in the second quarter. Hart then connected with Avery Whalen for a 58-yard touchdown, and Austin Cavanaugh added an 11-yard scoring run before halftime.

Noah Murphy caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Hart in the third quarter. Blake Patrick capped the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown run in the fourth and finished with four successful extra-point kicks.

Hart completed six of nine passes for 134 yards and rushed for 80 yards on five carries. Cavanaugh gained 61 yards on five carries, while Milliman added 43 yards and two touchdowns on five attempts. Whalen led the receivers with two catches for 83 yards.

Greenwich Keeps Hudson Off the Board, 24-0

GREENWICH — Wyatt Jamieson delivered two long-distance touchdowns as Greenwich defeated Hudson 24-0 on Sept. 18.

Keegan Clayton opened the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, followed by Jamieson’s 57-yard scoring rush. Ethan Saunders connected with Ethan Mullen for both two-point conversions, giving Greenwich a 16-0 halftime lead. Jamieson added a 70-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter, and Clayton ran in the conversion to complete the scoring.

Jamieson led Greenwich’s ground game with 85 yards on five carries. Saunders added 58 yards on 11 attempts, Wyatt Facin had 25 on two, Jameson Dobson gained 24 on seven and Clayton finished with 19 on 12. Saunders completed four of 21 passes for 36 yards with three interceptions. Jamieson caught three passes for 28 yards, while Omar DeJesus added an eight-yard reception.

Greenwich Leads 44-0 Before Coxsackie-Athens Forfeit

GREENWICH — Ethan Saunders threw three touchdown passes and Ethan Mullen scored three times as Greenwich built a 44-0 lead over Coxsackie-Athens on Sept. 25 before the game ended in a second-quarter forfeit.

Saunders started the scoring with a three-yard touchdown run, followed by Keegan Clayton’s two-point conversion. Saunders then found Mullen for touchdowns of 56 and 13 yards and Wyatt Jamieson for a 12-yard score. Saunders ran in the conversion after Mullen’s second touchdown, putting Greenwich ahead 28-0 after one quarter.

Clayton added a 14-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, with Saunders carrying in the conversion. Mullen then returned an interception 80 yards for a touchdown, and Jamieson’s conversion run brought the score to 44-0.

Saunders completed six of seven passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 56 yards and a score on four carries. Clayton gained 88 yards and scored once on six attempts, and Jamieson added 24 yards on three carries. Mullen caught two passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns, Jamieson had two catches for 25 yards and a touchdown, and Jacob Moore caught two passes for 18 yards.

On Monday it was announced that Coxsackie-Athens has canceled the remainder of its varsity football season because of injuries and a shortage of healthy players.
