Johnson Etches Name Into Record Books as Hartford's All Time Leading Scorer
McKenzie Johnson etched her name into the program record book, scoring 22 points to surpass the all-time scoring mark of 1,413 points previously held by Wendy Harrington since 1988.
HARTFORD — It was a memorable night on the home floor as Hartford rolled past North Warren 55-30 in a game that featured a milestone performance and several standout efforts.
McKenzie Johnson etched her name into the program record book, scoring 22 points to surpass the all-time scoring mark of 1,413 points previously held by Wendy Harrington since 1988. Johnson’s record-breaking night set the tone as Hartford controlled the game throughout.
Silver Stewart added a career-high 18 points, while Audrey Fiske continued her strong season with another double-double, finishing with 13 points and 15 rebounds. The night also marked a special moment for first-year varsity player Fraiya Dalaba, who scored her first career varsity points.
North Warren was led by Addison Swan and Gianna Tucci with 12 points apiece, while Mya Higgins added six.
McKenzie Johnson’s 50-point night lifts Hartford over Salem 60-48
HARTFORD — Hartford put together a dominant offensive performance Wednesday night, rolling past Salem 80-48 in a girls varsity basketball matchup highlighted by a career and season-high scoring night from McKenzie Johnson.
Johnson poured in 50 points to pace the Tanagers, setting the tone early as Hartford steadily built separation and never looked back. Audrey Fiske delivered a dominant all-around performance with 18 points and 20 rebounds, while Silver Stewart added seven points in the win.
Salem was led by McKenzie McKernon with 15 points. Meredith Barrett and Annabelle Haight each finished with eight points for the Lady Generals as they worked to keep pace against Hartford’s up-tempo attack.
Hartford falls to Schroon Lake
HARTFORD, NY — The Hartford girls basketball team dropped a 56–39 decision to Schroon Lake on Monday night, January 12.
Hartford was led by McKenzie Johnson with 20 points, while Audrey Fiske added 12. Schroon Lake was paced by Olivia Hartwell, who finished with 22 points, and Carly Smith, who scored 11 in the win.
Hoosic Valley jumps out early against Jesters
SCHAGHTICOKE — The Hoosic Valley built an early lead and went on to a 62-21 win over the Emma Willard Jesters.
Lainey Bochette led Hoosic Valley with 19 points, while Kaylee Smith added 15 and Phoebe Harder finished with 11 as the Valley placed three players in double figures. Hoosic Valley took control early, holding a 22-7 advantage after the first quarter, and rolled to the one-sided home decision.
Stillwater girls defeat Waterford on the road
WATERFORD — On Thursday, Jan. 8, Stillwater put together a balanced scoring effort in a 62–22 girls basketball win over Waterford.
Stillwater, which improved to 4–1 in league play and 8–1 overall, placed five players in the scoring column, led by Andie Luskin with 18 points. Luskin finished with seven two-point field goals and went 4-for-4 from the free-throw line. Addison Thornton followed with 17 points, connecting on three two-point baskets, three three-pointers and four free throws. Maddie Chatt added 16 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, while Emersyn Patenaude scored eight points and Leiann Thompson chipped in three.
As a team, Stillwater totaled 11 two-point field goals, 20 three-point attempts, 24 free-throw attempts and seven made foul shots for its 62 points.
Waterford was led by Kiarra Johnson with eight points, including two three-pointers. Piper Morris scored six points, Izzy Savage added four, and Gill Galka finished with two. Waterford recorded two two-point field goals, four three-pointers, eight free-throw attempts and eight makes in the loss.
Witches Continue to Dominate League Play
GREENWICH — On Thursday, Jan. 8, Greenwich hosted Hoosick Falls in a Wasaren League girls basketball matchup, with the Witches earning a 95–20 home win.
Greenwich led 41–19 at halftime and continued to build its advantage in the second half. Brooke Kuzmich paced the Witches with a game-high 33 points. Bailee Wolfe added 20 points, while Olivia Davis and Jordan Wolfe each finished with 11. Additional scoring for Greenwich came from Alexa Jansen with eight points, Keeley Vooris with five, Olivia Warner with three, and Ella Celani and Mya Saunders with two apiece.
Hoosick Falls was led by Avery McMahon with 14 points. Brynn Lackey, Kate Sparks and Laney Kasulinous each scored two points for the Panthers.
Tamarac overwhelms Cambridge, 74-25
CAMBRIDGE — Tamarac jumped out to a commanding early lead and never let up on the way to a 74-25 victory over the Cambridge Tigers in a WASAREN League girls basketball game played Jan. 12.
The Bengals set the tone immediately, opening the game with a 20-4 first quarter and extending the margin to 37-14 by halftime. Tamarac continued to control the pace after the break, outscoring Cambridge 13-9 in the third quarter and closing with a 24-2 advantage in the fourth.
Allison Lockrow led Tamarac with 18 points, while Elizabeth Darling finished with 17, including three 3-pointers. Rebecca Barbano added nine points, Lauren Sears and Amelia Grant each scored eight, and Addy Devine chipped in five. Zoe Dickenson scored three points, with Reagan Sorel, Jauna Llanas and Giada Bennington each adding two.
Cambridge was led by Avery Brown, Brigid Toleman and Lexie Pedersen with five points apiece. Jillian Robinson and Natalie Wood each finished with four points, while Vanessa Robinson added two.
Mechanicville uses defense to top Stillwater
MECHANICVILLE — The Mechanicville Raiders defeated the Stillwater Warriors 49-36, using a strong defensive effort to secure the home win. Tanner Eiseman led Mechanicville with 17 points, while Molly DiSiena added 13. Maddie Chatt scored 15 points for Stillwater. Mechanicville limited Stillwater to single-digit scoring in each of the final three quarters to pull away.
Hoosic Valley closes strong against Falls
SCHAGHTICOKE — Hoosic Valley held off Hoosick Falls for a 46-37 win, sealing the victory with a 13-8 final quarter. Lainey Bochette led Hoosic Valley with 12 points, while Bella Jones and Phoebe Harder scored nine apiece. Tatum Hickey paced Hoosick Falls with 20 points. Hoosic Valley carried a 33-29 lead into the fourth quarter and closed out the game over the final eight minutes.
Greenwich rolls past Emma Willard
GREENWICH — The Greenwich Witches led from start to finish in a 98-13 home win over the Emma Willard Jesters.
Brooke Kuzmich paced Greenwich with 27 points, including five three-pointers, while Bailee Wolfe added 25 points and knocked down seven shots from beyond the arc. Jordan Wolfe finished with 13 points for the Witches. Emma Willard was led by Bigmas with seven points.
Greenwich connected on 17 three-pointers in the game, controlling the tempo throughout in the one-sided decision.
