Wildcats post records, podium finishes at Ed Cepiel Invitational
HOOSICK FALLS — The Hoosick Falls Wildcats track and field teams turned in a strong showing at the 8th annual Ed Cepiel Invitational in Springfield, highlighted by multiple podium finishes and several new school records.
The boys team placed 16th in a competitive 30-team field, while the girls also finished 16th among 32 teams.
Trevor Sheldon led the way for the boys, finishing third in the 1,600 meters with a school-record time of 4:53.63. Sheldon was also part of two record-setting relays on the day. The boys 4x800 relay of Sheldon, Chris DeGeorge, Viggo Dennerline-McClellan and Fletcher Lange placed fifth with a new school record time of 9:27.87. Later, the boys sprint medley relay of Isai Taveras, Payton Bevevino, Enzo Famelette and Sheldon set another school mark, clocking 4:06.36.
Isaiah Paul-Smith added a fourth-place finish in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 6 inches.
On the girls side, Emma Waugh finished third in the 300 meters with a time of 44.98 and also ran on the eighth-place 4x400 relay. Lilly Zwinge had a pair of strong performances, placing fourth in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.60 and sixth in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 11 inches.
The girls 4x400 relay team of Waugh, Erin Conety, Ava Salvsevold and Taylor Econome crossed the line in 4:51.49 to round out the Wildcats’ top finishes.
The invitational marked one of the Wildcats’ most productive meets of the season, with multiple athletes reaching the podium and several school records falling against a deep regional field.
