Week of October 27
Matt Longtin had the hot hand this past week at the Barbecue with a huge 288-760. Matt just missed striking on his 11th ball as it came up just a bit light. Great bowling Matt.
The Troy Bowling Association will be holding its Annual Adult Child Tournament on Saturday, November 30th at Uncle Sam Lanes in Troy at 1pm. Adults will use last year's highest book average unless their current average as of the date of the tournament is 10 pins or higher. The youth bowler will use their current average as of November 1st. Handicap is 90% of 440. If the adults do not have a sanctioned average, you can still bowl, men using a 200 average and women using a 150 average. Smart Scholarships will be won by the youth. 1st place is $150, 2nd is $75, and 3rd is worth $50. Entry fee is $30 per team. I bowled with my grandson Zachary last year; I hope to be able to bowl again this year with him. Entry blanks are available on the Troy Association Facebook page. They should also be available at the Barbecue next week.
Did you watch the PBA Strike Derby this past Sunday? Each bowler bowled in a head to head match, attempting to throw more strikes in two minutes than their opponent. Defending champion Chris Via won his first match, however, was defeated in the second round. The final match had Andrew Anderson rolling against lefty Jesper Svensson. Jesper rolled 12 strikes in the two minutes while Andrew had 11. Each bowler had to roll strikes on two adjoining lanes with trying to get at least 20-22 strike attempts. Competing in this competition requires stamina, luck and good execution. Jesper is the first lefthanded bowler to win the event. There were many Brooklyn strikes and off hits that carried strikes while many of the bowlers left stinging 7, 9 or 10 pins on what appeared to be near perfect shots. I don't know if it all evens out or not.
Kingpins Alley South Glens Falls will be the setting for a popular Baker's Doubles Tournament this coming Sunday, November 3rd. Space is limited to the first 63 teams. I know several of the top Troy Association bowlers will be competing. If you are interested, please contact the lanes at 518-793-9606. With there be any Barbecue bowlers competing?
The Barbecue is holding a sweeper in the month of November. Please check with Jack at the lanes to see if there are any openings. These events fill up quickly.
