Man Charged after Burglary of Residence

JACKSON — New York State Police arrested a Vermont man early Tuesday morning following a reported burglary at a seasonal residence on Lauderdale Loop in the Town of Jackson.

According to police, the homeowners, who do not live locally, contacted authorities shortly after 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13, reporting a burglary in progress at the home. Troopers responded to the scene and did not locate anyone inside the residence. The homeowner, however, told troopers he had video footage showing a suspect inside the home shortly before police arrived.

While responding, troopers observed a man walking along Route 22 and later attempted to locate him in connection with the report. Police said the man was uncooperative and attempted to hide in the woods near the lakeside area. At one point during the encounter, the individual was reported to be held at gunpoint. He was ultimately taken into custody down an embankment near the water.

Police identified the suspect as Tyler D. Galipeau, 44, of Bennington, Vt. He was arrested at approximately 7:02 a.m. in the Town of Jackson and transported for central arraignment.

Galipeau was charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony, for illegal entry of a dwelling, as well as misdemeanor counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

The incident is being investigated by the New York State Police.
