Wilda Sheffer
Wilda H. Sheffer passed away on April 18, 2025, at Van Rensselaer Manor in North Greenbush, New York, following a long illness. She was born on March 20, 1948, in Hoosick Falls, New York, to Wallace and Virginia (Gifford) Sheffer.
Wilda is a 1966 graduate of Hoosick Falls Central School. Following high school, she obtained an Associates Degree in Engineering from Hudson Valley Community College and served for thirty-eight years at the New York State Department of Transportation in the Photogrammetry Department.
Wilda cherished her family and loved any opportunity for a visit or phone call, especially from her sisters, nieces, and great-nieces. She enjoyed summers at Babcock Lake, trips to the New England seacoast and traveling in general. She could often be found on the sidelines or in the audience, watching her family participate in sports, plays, recitals and concerts.
Wilda grew up with five siblings, Pat (David) Niles, Claudia (Fran Brundige) Lohnes, Gail (Patrick) Murnane, Wally (Kathy) Sheffer, and Chuck (Jackie) Sheffer, who shared in the bonds of family and faith.
She is survived by her children: Denny (Meaghan) Keegan and John (Marsha) Keegan; and her step-daughter Alyce (Chris) Morris; her grandchildren Daumanic, Freya, Logan, Sofia, Maddie, Carter, Isaac, Laynie, Quin, Liam and Delaney: and her nieces and nephews, Philip, Dave, Jerry, Debbie, Chrissy, Lisa, Vici, Myssi, Dan, Wally and Eric. She had a large extended family that she loved.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Gail, her step-daughter Amy Perkins, and cherished loved ones: Patsy, Paula and David.
A woman of faith and community spirit, Wilda was an active member of the Pittstown United Methodist Church where she helped to lead the visitation team, often visiting people with her great friend Dianne. She also attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenwich, NY where her son and daughter-in-law serve as clergy. When her children were young she was a member of PASS and the Performing Arts Booster Club at Hoosick Falls Central School.
Her generosity and helpful nature were well known among those who had the privilege of knowing her. She was generous and caring and spent her life helping others, especially visiting and cooking for those who were lonely and sick. Wilda’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
A celebration of life will be held at Pittstown United Methodist Church Hall on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at 3 p.m. followed by a meal provided by the members of the church. All are welcome to attend. A service of Christian burial will be held at a later date.
